Tuesdays are my half day at work, I'm off at noon. It is a great day for me to run errands and clean my house. Today was going to be a little different from normal because I had a couple afternoon meetings and Noah had a Basketball game and Basketball practice.
I started the day with a bowl of Non restricted Maple oatmeal, 12oz of water, supplements and a cup of coffee with cinnamon :) YUMM! I was reminded by my husband to make sure to vote today and he reminded me of my craziness of last night. He said he was voting for the mayor of crazytown, me :(! I was a bit off the handle last night.
After dropping Noah off at school and voting I headed into work for few hours. This time through with the diet I am really needing some new ideas and wanting to mix it up a little. I love meeting with my clients daily and hearing some of the brilliant ideas they have to stay on track. I'm in a mentally different place. I had taken a few steps back in my food journey and went to old habits... Eating large servings, not drinking water and eating mindlessly. This is something that I have control of once again and I'm feeling good! I have to remember that food is something that I struggle with and I have to stay accountable! It can quickly take control if I don't watch it. I have to be more mindful in the future for occasions that may trigger a bad eating or drinking situation. A couple books to take a look at are http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/comfort-cravings/201112/8-must-read-books-mindful-eating. All are great and offer lots of suggestions.
Lunch consisted of a vanilla shake with cinnamon (cinnamon has a lot of health benefits and are allowed on phase 1) http://cinnamonvogue.com/cinnamoncommonuses.html and a cup of cucumbers on the way to my meeting that started at 12:30. At my meeting I ran into a couple of past clients that thanked me for blogging and putting it out there. It is nice to hear that they are reading it and also supporting me :).
Noah had a school basketball game that ended 6pm and then practice for club basketball at 6:30pm. We had to stop and get something freaky fast. Jimmy Johns is always a great choice! I ordered the #4 (Turkey Tom) double meat, no mayo, add alfalfa sprouts & mustard. I also added a pickle instead of chips and a cookie, this counts as part of 4 cups of veggies for the day. I don't recommend eating deli meat often but on occasion is okay.
After my final meeting of the day I was exhausted and not really even hungry. I got home and my husband Robert had a Wildberry yogurt shake and a cup of sleepy time tea ready to help me unwind after a busy day. Having support during this process is crucial! Before starting this journey I asked for complete support by my family and coworkers! Without it I was more likely not to stick to strict phase 1. Robert has told me a couple times that he is proud of me and he is here for me no matter what. Those little words of encouragement can make all the difference in my mood.
It was time for bed and another day of success is in the books. I am not worrying about tomorrow, next week or next month. I am living for today and taking situations as they come my way.

Day 3! Crazytown
I was prepared for Day 3! I started with a 10oz cup of water & my vitamins, as I do everyday! In the past, day 3 on IP was the hardest (headache, hungry, crabby, irritable) I am going to do all I can to prevent any of these side effects in advance. A cup of coffee with 1/2 of IP chocolate drink as my creamer was a perfect start.
Mondays at work are usually pretty busy, lots of emails, voicemails, messages to get caught up & clients to see. I loved hearing stories of the weekend & Halloween parties. It is always encouraging to hear how they overcame some of the obstacles with food & drinks & stuck to plan.
It was time for lunch & I had to run a couple errands. I LOVE the non restricted BBQ ridges, they're yummy easy to eat on the go. I didn't have time for veggies over lunch so I waited until 3:30 when I had a minute & ate a big salad.
After work I picked up Noah & headed home. I was really hungry so I thought I would try the vanilla pudding pancake recipe. I didn't follow the directions 100% cause I was so hungry! I added a little to much water & the pancakes didn't turn out :( I didn't care, I ate them anyway:)
Noah had practice until 8:30 and I was a starving when I got home. I made 3 scrambled eggs with mushrooms and hot sauce. I had a HUGE headache so I drank 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt & 8oz of water, it dissipated in 10 minutes or so.
After dinner I was a little irritable & crabby, for the sake of my husband Robert & son Noah I headed to bed.
Day 3 was a success!!! I know this is all worth it! A little challenging at times, but worth it!!!
HUGE SALAD!

Day 2! I can do this!
Day 2 started with a phone call from my dad and he invited us all out for biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs and fruit :( Before we headed out to my dads I sautéed some fresh mushrooms, jalapenos with the IP herb and cheese omelet and hot sauce, of course. I guzzled down 12oz of water and morning vitamins. We headed to my dads and my belly was full! I had some fresh cucumbers in my purse in case of an emergency! We visited and I drank 2 cups of coffee with French vanilla splenda. I reached for the grapes a few times, but caught myself.
After leaving my dads I headed to Aldi's for groceries for the week. I stocked up on fresh produce, veggie steamers and protein. When I got home my stomach started to make some noises. I made some detox water last night and it was all ready for today http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=363742 I use fresh mint leaves, not the tea bags. I drank 12 oz of water and warmed up some water to make the NEW non restricted Apple oatmeal. I added a little cinnamon and diced up zucchini to the oatmeal. The zucchini tasted like little pieces of apple. I was satisfied :)!
After running kids to basketball practices I prepped for the week. I chopped up all my veggies and put them in baggies, made a HUGE salad for tomorrow and made a big batch of "Select Veggie" soup. I was ready for the week.
It was windy and chilly out so I went through some old notes in a book I read a few months ago. The book is called 10 Simple Solutions for Building Self-Esteem http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Solutions-Building-Self-Esteem-Self-Doubt/dp/157224495X I go back to this book often to remind myself that there are a lot of positive changes that can be made to myself. I love Chapter 3 of this book, Clear Away Negative thoughts. I often think the worst or make negative assumptions. When really that's not the case at all. This chapter gives suggestions and tips to make the best of situations, people and things that we don't always have control of. I would greatly recommend this book, it is also a quick read :)
After a hour of relaxing it was time to get dinner ready. I thawed out some turkey burger and made Asian Coleslaw. The link refers to the recipe as Crack Slaw, sorry, I didn't name it :/ It is VERY good tho! I have made it with chicken, beef, ground turkey and shrimp! You can also double the recipe and have leftovers. http://www.food.com/recipe/crack-slaw-low-carb-434863
I'm wanting to make this a overall health change mentally, physically and healthy. I made plans to go to yoga and it was time for class before dinner was ready. I ate a bar and drank some water on my way to the gym. I'm excited that day 2 is going very well! Yoga starts and I'm feeling good. I follow the instructor and I go into a forward fold and wrap my arms around my thighs as instructed. As I'm in this position I start to get a little light headed. Not sure if it is the fact that I haven't had dinner or if I'm just disgusted with the fact that I feel like I have a flotation device around my waist :( Ugh, dang it! Why did I let this weight come back on??? I stand up and take a drink of water and start to feel better. I finished class and I'm happy I went and didn't leave in the middle of class.
It was nice to come home to dinner being ready and feeling like I had accomplished day 2 with success!
Before starting this journey I was making excuses, taking short cuts and giving myself a free pass to eat and drink what I wanted for whatever reason. Was it because I missed my son that is in the Air Force, Past guilt, self doubt or I just didn't care? I'm trying to figure it all out! One thing I do know is that I don't like to feel out of control in any situation. I know that I do have control of my actions and what I consume. I went to bed with a sense of peace and knowing that I can do this! It's never to late to make changes in life!

Mentally ready for Ideal Protein Phase 1!
There was no question or doubt that it was time to get restarted!!! I have worked at Innovative for almost 4 years & I have restarted this diet a few times. I have failed a couple times, made excuses & took short cuts. A few of my favorite aspects of this program is that a fresh start is always an option! Another thing I love about ideal protein is if you FOLLOW the protocol 100% you will get great results. I have to remind myself that there is not a gray area! If I choose to do it 98% (which I've done) I'm not happy with my results,I get discouraged & I get off track. I talk to clients about the weight range to stay in. I have a range that I stay within & the top # is my OH MY #!!! I hit that # & honestly I'm a little embarrassed!!! I often remind my clients that I am human & my weight & food choices are something I will have to be aware of forever.
November 1, 2014 was a fresh start on Phase 1. I prepped Friday night as the kiddos were sorting their Halloween candy. I cut up cucumbers, celery & boiled a dozen eggs. It was my Saturday to work so I started with a cup of black coffee & cappuccino IP. The morning went quick and I was feeling good. After work I met my family at a friends house to watch the Iowa game. I had my veggies, NON restricted S & V chips & fresh pico de galo. The tailgating food & cupcakes called my name a couple times but I wasn't hungry & the number I saw on the scale yesterday kept me on the straight & narrow. After the game we ran to SAMs where I picked up a rotisserie chicken & broccoli steamers for dinner at my Dads. When I got to my dads the kids were all eating candy & snacking on apples & grapes. I had to stop myself multiple times from the mindless eating that I had gotten back into. I cut up a PB bar into 12 tiny peices & snacked on them while we all visited. I reminded myself that I have a choice in what I eat or drink. While the rest of my family enjoyed chili dogs & goulash I ate the best rotisserie chicken I've ever tasted! We headed home to watch my cute precious nephew Brodie. He wanted to watch Captain America, eat popcorn & drink hot chocolate. I had some cinnamon green tea as my treat.
My first day on phase 1 was a complete success! No shortcuts or BLT's (bites, licks or tastes) I'm very proud of myself & thankful for my family & husband for supporting my decision to get back on track with Ideal Protein. I know that this isn't going to be a breeze, there will be challenges, hurtles & pumpkin pie to refuse. But... I know I can do this!!!
There is no better time than now for a fresh start! Know that you have a choice.

My confession...A little insight on my maintinence journey.
I have a confession…
Do you ever feel that way when you step in to
our little offices? Not that you should, but today I have one.
This last week was a doozy.
I got sick on Sunday.
So that means I didn’t prep one wink of food
that night.
I was home on Monday and slept ALL day long.
Tuesday I was feeling better, but not good enough to get a work out in, or even
try and eat anything like a veggie. Wednesday I was feeling much better, but I
could NOT get my butt out of bed to work out. That seemed to be the trend all
week long. I didn’t track my food, I didn’t work out, I didn’t eat the
healthiest and I felt SOOO guilty!
******Too be honest I normally like to go work out. It is time in
the morning where my kiddos are sleeping. I can think about the day ahead of me
and I don’t feel guilty being away from them since they are snoozing. But this
last week was a whole different story. ******
This last week I felt like I was letting you
all down.
By the time Sunday came around I was so
discouraged with myself and in a funk that I knew I had to pick myself up and
get my butt in gear. I kept telling myself, “Tomorrow is a brand new day.” That
is something I would tell you. I needed to believe it. I needed to believe it
for myself. I did NOT want to go back to old habits.
When I was going through the phases and lost
my 47lbs my motivation to do Ideal Protein were my little lambs and Chad. I
knew I had to be the healthiest me to give them the best me. Now that I am at
goal and have been able to maintain all of YOU keep me motivated to stay at my “Ideal”
weight. I can’t thank you enough for that.
Too be honest I haven’t weighed myself in
months. I can tell you that because I gave up on weighing. I gave up on it when
I really started to workout once I hit phase 4. I had to do that to stay sane. I realized then I
had to find NSV’s. Do you know what NSV’s are? Non-scale Victories! (These are
my favorites. I often call them Milestones) I try and find a new one each week.
My pants look a little better, I worked out every weekday morning, I stuck to
my ONE fun day that week, or I logged my food every single day. I am telling
you all this because all of us… Dusty, Andrea, Mandy and I are all HUMAN (Sorry
ladies, I had to let them know we aren’t super heroes!). We have to set goals
every single day, week, month for ourselves. And sometimes we fail. Point
blank. Now I don’t want this post to come across as being a debby downer, but I
want you to see a peek inside our lives/my life. That I have to work at this lifestyle
every SINGLE day. It's hard. But worth it.
This last week on Sunday I was looking back
and thinking that I failed. I failed myself, my family and YOU!
Buttttttt THEN as I was looking for
motivation I stumbled across a quote. “We need to accept that we won’t always
make the right decisions. That we’ll screw up royally sometimes. Understanding
that failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.”-Arianna
Huffington. Thank you Arianna. That hit home. It was ok. I needed to quit
pouting. Be realistic with myself and come to the conclusion that maybe my body
needed a break. Maybe I was supposed to spend a few extra mornings cuddled in
with my little Brodie- - or I mean Captain America as he calls himself now.
Maybe I needed to just think about life and how blessed I am. Maybe, just maybe
I needed some time to REALLY get my motivation back.
Well I can tell you all. It is Tuesday. I am back
to my routine and I feel SOOOO good. This week I’m thankful to be a mommy, a fiancé,
have a supportive family, and to work for an AMAZING company. I have my food
prepped for the week. I have our family meals all scheduled. I have gotten back
to the gym and I am doing just fine! I still haven’t stepped on that scale and
I am thankful that my skinny jeans still fit like they did last week.
. My NSV’s this week are…
·
Hitting the gym every week day morning
with my noble and accountable workout partner, Nicole.
·
Prepping healthy/tasty meals for
my family.
What are your NSV’s??
Please share. You just
might motivate someone. As we all know we could always use some extra motivation! J

Lindsay

Client of the Month-Thea Curtin
Client of the Month-Thea Curtin
Why did you start the diet?
I started this diet because I was
unhappy with myself. My whole life I have struggled with my weight and feeling
good about myself. Last summer I did a weight loss program that included only
shakes 3-4 times a day, every day! I was miserable and lost a lot of enjoyment
in life. I lost a lot of weight but once I started eating again I went crazy
and quickly began gaining most of it back. I wanted something to help keep me
motivated, on track, and hold myself accountable with weekly weigh-ins. What
really attracted me to this program was that we got to meet with coaches every
week and even after we are off the program we can still come in and meet
without having to pay! Many places charge for this and I felt as though this
program really cares about the people they are helping and not trying to take
their money. I was also excited about having food prepared for me to make it
easy to follow and actually being able to eat food! I heard about Ideal Protein from a friend who
had great success and thought it sounded must more realistic and a good way to
get my weight lost started, again.
What was your biggest struggle?
The biggest struggle for me was
doing it over summer and having lots of fun things planned with friends and
family. My mind was in the right place when I started and I was ready to change
my lifestyle and not just lose the weight quickly. I will admit that I have not
been 100% with the plan throughout the last 4 months but I have come to realize
that I am not here to lose it quickly again and have it come right back on. I
am here to create a healthier, happier me, change my lifestyle, and do it in a
healthy way. Although I have had my cheats, I have been honest with my coaches
and have let them know that I am okay with my weight coming off slower than it
would if I didn’t cheat because I enjoyed myself and did not feel isolated
because I had to try and lose weight again. I have learned to get right back on
program after cheats and not turn a cheat meal into a cheat week! After all, I
am learning a new lifestyle and things are not going to be perfect all the
time.
Did you go on vacation while on Ideal
Protein?
I didn’t go on any exciting
vacations but I went to a lot of concerts as well as back to my hometown to
visit my family. These times are always hard to stick with the plan with lots
of yummy beer and food! I have learned that beer and food are not what make the
times fun, but the people I am around and how I interpret the situation. In the
past, I would turn down fun and social events because I knew I wouldn’t be able
to eat or drink what I wanted. Now I feel as though I can enjoy these times
just as much and still feel good about my choices.
What is your favorite Ideal Protein
Product? Restricted and Non-restricted.
I got for easy and fast during the
day because of my work schedule. I work as a caseworker and behavior specialist
so I have clients all throughout the day with little breaks. I have learned to
pre-make my meals the night before so that I am prepared and do not look for
something unhealthy during those times. I have been sticking to veggies or
broccoli slaw with the chicken patty for lunch a majority of the time.
What is your go to recipe?
I love the pasta bake, chicken
salad, and meatza! They are so satisfying, easy, and most of all enjoyable
without splurging on tons of unhealthy foods!
How did this affect your family?
I live with my boyfriend who has
been extremely supportive of this journey. He allows me to cook how I want and
will often take it upon himself to do much of the cooking. He often is weary of
what I am cooking but I have not had any complaints when he tries it J It has helped him want to become
healthier and he is conscious of what needs to be done in order to do it! My
extended family is also very supportive and they are happy that I am finally
becoming someone healthier, happier, and not always having to worry about my
weight!
Did you get off any medications?
I did not get off any medications
but by coming to Ideal Protein I found out that I had hypothyroidism and I
basically did not have a metabolism. I felt I was living a miserable existence
for a while, always being tired, working so hard but never losing weight or
gaining it back so quickly. It was defeating when I would try so hard to lose
but nothing would happen and I would quickly give up. I take responsibility for
a majority of my weight gain but it is relieving to know that there was some
cause behind it. I have been on medication for my thyroid since I began here
and I can say that I feel so much better. I do not feel tired all the time and
have been consistently losing weight or maintaining week to week.
What have you completely eliminated
from your diet forever?
Oh goodness, I am not sure I can say
that there has been anything that I have or will eliminate from my diet
forever. I now know to take things in moderation and if I am going to enjoy a
cheat meal I will do just that, but get right back on it the next day! I
struggle with dwelling on my bad decisions so I am going to work on accepting
it and moving on and making the right choices.
What tools/habits are you going to
continue in your life to maintain your weight? Example IP products, exercise.
I am going to continue to utilize my
coaches to hold me accountable once I am off the program with sporadic
weigh-ins. I also thoroughly enjoy many of the meals that IP has offered and
will continue to use those as tools when making meals. I have continued to work
out while on this plan because I felt as though it was just not something I
could give up and continue to feel as good as I possibly could. I will definitely continue to work out as
well as making healthy food choices. As I mentioned earlier when (not if) I
make bad decisions I can be okay with it and get right back on track!
Anything that we could change or
continue to do to make this journey just as successful for other dieters?
I am so grateful for the staff at
Ideal Protein! Lindsay, Dusty and the other staff have been helpful,
encouraging, understanding, and consistent in this journey with me! I have
communicated with them what my goals and expectations are for this diet and
they have been extremely supportive. I let them know that I wanted to enjoy my
summer and not be miserable as I was in the past and they were completely
understanding of this. I feel as though I have gotten my life back under
control and do not have to constantly worry about my weight. Although I am not
at my goal yet, this has been an enjoyable experience and I do not see this as
a “diet” anymore. My life is and has been changing and it will only continue to
get better from here!

What is HIIT?
What Is HIIT?
HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training is a
training technique that when you are preforming it you are giving it your all,
100% energy and effort. You will be doing this through quick, but intense
bursts of exercise which are then followed by short, sometimes active recovery
periods. These recovery periods are usually 30-45 seconds. This type of training
will get your heart rate up and keeps it up and will burn more fat in less
time. A high intensity workout increases the body's need for oxygen during the effort
and creates an oxygen shortage, this causes your body to ask for more oxygen
during recovery. This effect is referred to as excess post exercise oxygen consumption
and this is the reason why intense exercise will help burn more fat than
regular exercise aerobic and steady- state workouts. What will HIIT work outs
do for me? They will increase your metabolism, they are quick and convenient,
and there is no equipment necessary.
These work outs can be performed right in your own home. For example for
an in home HIIT work out:
Warm Up (at your own pace) : Touch Your Toes ,
Lunges 10 each leg, Side lunges 10 each direction, Butt kicks 15 seconds, High
Knees 15 seconds, arm circles 20 seconds, trunk twists 20 seconds, and toe
touch again.
HIIT workout: (100% effort and energy!)
30 Crunches, 30 second rest 15 pushups 30 second rest 20 Squats 30 second rest 10 Burpees 30 second rest In place Lunges 20 each leg 30 second rest
Repeat the circuit 5 times
For a cool down- Stretch Out arms and legs and
back.
